On Monday, PGA Tour player Michael Kim took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a story, as he often does.

Hot summer story I’ve heard:A while back, a player was playing well on Friday and was at 3 under par. It was a VERY hot afternoon and the walk from 15 green to 16th tee box was far and up a really big hill. He sees a rules official and calls him…Player: Hey, what’s the penalty…

According to the former Tour winner, a player willingly took a ride from a cart knowing that it was a penalty due to the intense heat.

Hot summer story I’ve heard: A while back, a player was playing well on Friday and was at 3 under par. It was a VERY hot afternoon and the walk from 15 green to 16th tee box was far and up a really big hill. He sees a rules official and calls him…

Player: Hey, what’s the penalty if you give me a ride to the tee box?

Official: uhh it’s a two stroke penalty

P: what’s the cut line at?

O: it’s currently at even par

P: Fu** it, I’m at 3under give me a ride to that tee box

The story is a bit hard to believe, considering how much of a financial difference it makes to make a cut for PGA Tour players, but we’ll take Kim’s word for it.

Holly Sonders, who worked at the Golf Channel from 2011-2014, has started her own topless sports league called “Exposed Sportz”.

This week, Sonders sat down with Golf Digest’s “The Loop” podcast to discuss both her new venture and her time in golf media.

Sonders made some interesting comments in the interview, including that she was “dying inside” during her time at Golf Channel and Fox Sports.

“I was just dying inside most of the time to being told what to say, what to do, how to act, and so it’s, there’s something to be said for being free whether other people like it or not.”

The 34-year-old said that by the end of her time at Golf Channel, she was doing three shows a day, and then went to film “Playing Lessons with the Pro’s” on her off days.

“They just kept adding and adding to the point where at the end, Morning Drive I was on Thursday-Monday because that’s when the action is, then Tuesday I would do the instructional show and Wednesday I would fly out to do ‘Playing with the Pro’s’. So, that’s seven days a week. I was dead, like I was dead.

And you’re paying me peanuts. So, of course I’m going to go to Fox. Goodbye. I get to go to L.A., I get to make my own schedule, I get to have an offseason.”

After getting tired of being told how to act and dress, Sonders left television all together.

“At the end of Fox, it was just, after 10 years of being scripted, and told what to say, and to cut my hair, and to wear baggy clothing and to wear a polo, I’d had enough.”

After getting out of Golf Channel and Fox, Sonders used her connections on Instagram to meet women who’d be interested in being a part of her NSFW sports league, which she says is off to a flying start.

You can hear the whole interview here.

*Update* In addition to the five names mentioned below, Zach Johnson confirmed the addition of Sam Burns to his team this Tuesday morning.

USA Confirmed Wildcard Picks: Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns.

As first reported by The Guardian, Zach Johnson has decided on five of the six captain’s picks for the Ryder Cup.

Per the report, among the five picks is two-time major champion Justin Thomas. Although not completely unexpected, the pick may raise some eyebrows due to the 30-year-old’s poor form this season. JT finished 71st in the FedEx Cup standings and missed five of his last eight cuts to end the season.

Johnson is clearly giving Thomas the benefit of the doubt due to his strong Ryder Cup record where the American is 6-2-1 in his nine matches in 2018 and 2021.

Brooks Koepka, who fell from an automatic qualifying spot after the BMW Championship, is also expected to be one of ZJ’s picks. Despite his PGA Championship victory and runner-up finish at the Masters, there was still a bit of skepticism regarding Koepka being a surefire pick due to his defection to LIV.

Per The Guardian, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth and Collin Morikawa are all also expected to be among the six captain’s picks, leaving one spot remaining.

The final pick will likely come down to one of Tony Finau, Sam Burns, Cameron Young or Keegan Bradley, with Lucas Glover seemingly on the outside looking in.

The six players will join Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Brian Harman and Wyndham Clark on the trip to Rome on the week of September 25th-October 1st.

Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee took to his Instagram page to share his best “comebacks” of 2023.

A post shared by Brandel Chamblee (@chambleebrandel)

That was the best golf I’ve seen on the PGA Tour all year. Final pairing and they shoot the two lowest scores of the day 63-62… both Hovland and Schauffele had raw scores of -19 for the week, 7 strokes clear of the next best score by Wyndham Clark at -12.

2023 was a year of comebacks, in no particular order:

1) Fowler from oblivion2) Day from back struggles3) Koepka from Netflix gloom4) Glover from putting yips5) Hovland from chipping issues

Chamblee’s post serves as a good reminder that despite all of the drama surrounding the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, the product continues to be excellent on the course and provide extraordinary content on a yearly basis.

Chamblee’s post also included a section that included the “Best Stories of the Year”:

Best stories of the year in no particular order:

1) Nick Taylor’s putt on 18 and winning Canadian Open followed Adam Hadwin getting tackled by security… can’t make that up.2) Michael Block at the PGA (Hole in one, chip at 18) can’t make that up, part two.3) Fowler win at Rocket Mortgage. Great react of satisfaction.4) Rory’s win at Scottish Open birdieing the final two holes… best long iron of the year.5) Homa’s walk and talk en route to winning Farmers… what a great pick in Homa for an experiment that proved to be a home run for players and fans.

With the DP World Tour season still on the home stretch and the Ryder Cup coming soon, there are sure to be some more compelling stories in golf for the remainder of 2023.
